Bernardo Bertolucci soll für eine kommende Criterion-Veröffentlichung einen neuen 4-stündigen Director's Cut seines Films "Der letzte Kaiser / The Last Emperor" erstellt haben. Mehr Infos dazu im Criterion on Five-Blog.

At this point I’m in way over my head, but it was fascinating to hear how he ties the world together. Everything is connected, and he seems to harbor absolutely no doubt about his views. As I listened to him, I couldn’t help thinking that even aside from his mastery of his art, I’ve never met anyone who so totally embodies the sentence from Emerson “To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men—that is genius.” |

Nun ja. Dank Storaro werden wir diesen Film dann nun wie "Apocalypse Now" auch in 2.00:1 und nicht in 2.35:1 vorgesetzt bekommen.
Und was soll das mit dem "Movie theaters in Europe project faster than theaters in America because of the differences in current. 50 kHz and 60 kHz?"? Totaler Blödsinn. Hier werden die Filme ebenfalls mit 24 Bildern pro Sekunde gezeigt. Da hat sich wohl jemand mit dem PAL-System vertan, oder?

Sehr seltsam. Wieso denn wieder eine neue Fassung? Aber scheinbar hat Bertolucci so viel Material gedreht, daß er immer wieder nachladen kann. Und verwunderlich ist es nicht. Die Autobiographie über das Leben von Pu Yi ist äußerst spannend und detailreich. Ich vermute mal stark, daß die in dem Package mit enthalten sein wird, wie vorher schon die Buchbeigaben zu The Man who fell to Earth oder der Rohmer-Box.

| Ich hatte mich ja auf eine mögliche Auswertung von Criterion sehr gefreut, aber nun weiß ich noch nicht so recht, was ich von der Ankündigung halten soll. Es erscheint mir auf den ersten Blick nicht sinnvoll, warum ein zweiter Director's Cut notwendig sein sollte. |
