Here are the results of a poll conducted by the Cinemateque at Alma Ata. A new brave way of coming to 100. The crafty Kazakhs polled critics in 50 countries. Each nation could vote for their own top film (automatically selected to make the first 50), then also top 10's to choose the best from other countries. The 50 most voted films from round the world were selected, but with a catch. Only 8 films from the most succesful nation, 7 from the 2nd, 6 from the 3rd, no more than 5 from any others. No director allowed twice. So Sweden will no doubt feel especially hard done by. A few countries went for films to represent them directed by foreigners.
