Movie Geeks United! hat am letzten Sonntag den ersten Teil eines auf acht Episoden ausgelegten Audio-Programms über Stanley Kubrick live auf blogtalkradio ausgestrahlt. Diese und alle noch folgenden Episoden des Podcasts können allerdings auch auf “Movie Geeks United! presents The Kubrick Series” angehört werden. Weiter geht es mit dem zweiten Teil über “2001: Odyssee im Weltraum / 2001: A Space Odyssey” [GB / USA 1968] am Sonntag, den 19. Dezember 2010.

Heute vor 50 Jahren feierte Alfred Hitchcocks schwarz-weißes Meisterwerk “Psycho” [USA 1960] in New York seine Premiere.

Der Tagesspiegel erinnert an Robert Bloch, den Autor des Romans, den Hitchcock filmisch umsetzte. Der Artikel “Iiieek, iiieek, iiieek, iiieek” bei einestages hat den Unterschied zwischen der damaligen Kritikermeinung und dem großen kommerziellen Erfolg zum Thema. Auch die heutige “Kalenderblatt”-Sendung des Deutschlandradio beschäftigt sich mit “Psycho“. Leider sind die “Kalenderblatt”-Sendungen nicht mehr als MP3 abrufbar, man kann den Wortlaut jedoch nachlesen. Bei PopMatters sind innerhalb der elfteiligen “Directors Spotlight: Alfred Hitchcock“-Artikel-Reihe vor fünf Tagen zwei englischsprachige Texte erschienen: “Psycho: The Mother of All Horrors” und “Get Out of the Shower: The ‘Shower Scene’ and Hitchcock’s Narrative Style in Psycho“.

Beim Film-Noir-Podcast “Out of the Past” wird “Die blaue Dahlie / The Blue Dahlia” [USA 1946, George Marshall] besprochen.

A script by Raymond Chandler. Veronica Lake, Alan Ladd, and William Bendix in leading roles. Costumes by the great Edith Head, and cinematography by Lionel Lindon, who had been nominated for best cinematography just the year before for the Oscar sensation GOING MY WAY. In short, THE BLUE DAHLIA seems to have everything going it’s way. Why, then, does the film fail to deliver the emotional impact of near contemporary titles like THE KILLERS or THE BIG SLEEP?

Martin Scorseses der Filmrestaurierung und -bewahrung verschriebene Word Cinema Foundation hat vor wenigen Tagen in Cannes bekannt gegeben, daß sie Partnerschaften mit B-Side Entertainment, The Auteurs und Criterion eingegangen ist. In einem Telefon-Interview mit GreenCine Daily erzählt Scorsese über die Aufgaben der WCF, über die in Cannes vorgestellten Film (“Ein Sommer zum Verlieben / Gu ling jie shao nian sha ren shi jian / A Bright Summer Day” [RC 1991, Edward Yang], “Al-Mummia / The Night of the Counting Years [aka: The Mummy]” [ET 1969, Chadi Abdel Salam] und “Netze / Redes” [MEX 1936, Fred Zinnemann, Emilio Gómez Muriel]) und seinen persönlichen Heiligen Gral der Filmrestaurierung.

Aus der Pressemitteilung über die WCF-Partnerschaften:

The films that the WCF restores every year will now have their festival premiere in Cannes and then begin their tour to the public via a network of other festivals and museum exhibitions.  During the museum tour of the restored 35mm prints, the films will also now be made available digitally for the first time through The Auteurs.  Shortly after, the films will roll out through the partnership with B-Side to universities and film clubs, and also will reach film lovers at home through B-Side’s relationships with platforms such as Netflix and iTunes.  Ultimately, the films will be made available on DVD in collectors’ box sets through a partnership with the Criterion Collection, who will also select a few titles each year to distribute as individual special-edition releases.
