Laut einer Liste von Anfang des Jahres plant Warner Bros. am 5. Oktober 2010 die Veröffentlichung der beiden Bogart-Klassiker “Die Spur des Falken / The Malteses Falcon” [USA 1941, John Huston] und “Der Schatz der Sierra Madre / The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” [USA 1948, John Huston]. Mittlerweile sind die Cover zu den Titeln aufgetaucht.
Die Blu-ray aus dem Hause Warner Bros. zum Monsterklassiker “King Kong und die weiße Frau [aka: Die Fabel von King Kong. Ein amerikanischer Trick- und Sensationsfilm] / King Kong” [USA 1933, Merian C. Cooper, Ernest B. Schoedsack] hatte ich bereits vorgestellt, nun möchte ich noch diese ansprechend gestaltete Werbeanzeige nachreichen.
Merian C. Coopers und Ernest B. Schoedsacks “King Kong” [USA 1933], mit den revolutionären Stop-Motion-Tricks von Willis O’Brien, wird am 28. September 2010 in den USA auf Blu-ray erscheinen. Der Film, der in Deutschland 1933 unter dem Titel “Die Fabel von King Kong. Ein amerikanischer Trick- und Sensationsfilm“, später dann als “King Kong und die weiße Frau” in die Kinos kam, wird von Warner Bros. laut Pressemitteilung in einem “Visually Stunning Blu-ray Book”, also wahrscheinlich in einem DigiBook, veröffentlicht. Somit ist leider eine der Doppel-DVD aus dem Jahr 2005 ebenbürtige Verpackung vom Tisch. Die “Two-Disc Collector’s Edition”-DVD kam in einer wunderschönen, geprägten Tin-Box daher und bot neben einem DigiPak eine Reproduktion des “Grauman’s Chinese Theatre”-Souvenir-Programms von 1933, Postkarten und einen Coupon für ein Poster des Films. Im Bereich des Bonusmaterials gibt es bei der Blu-ray keine Unterschiede zur Doppel-DVD.
In Deutschland liegen die Rechte an dem RKO-Titel übrigens bei Kinowelt. Ob und wann eine deutschsprachige Blu-ray erscheint, ist bisher nicht bekannt.

Am 3. August 2010 wird Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in Zusammenarbeit mit Warner Bros. in den USA eine “TCM Spotlight: Errol Flynn Adventures“-Box mit fünf DVDs veröffentlichen. Vier der Filme sind erstmals auf DVD erhältlich, “Objective, Burma!” kam bereits 2003 auf DVD heraus, allerdings bietet die DVD dieses Sets anderes Bonusmaterial.

3sat zeigt heute Abend um 22:35 Uhr in Erstausstrahlung die 45-minütige Dokumentation “Der Klang Hollywoods – Max Steiner und seine Erben” von Jacob Groll.
Der Wiener Komponist, Dirigent und Arrangeur Max Steiner (1888 – 1971) wird in den USA als der “Vater der Filmmusik” verehrt. Er schuf die Musik zu mehr als 300 Filmen, darunter Klassiker wie “Vom Winde verweht”, “King Kong” und “Casablanca”. Steiner wurde für seine Arbeit mit insgesamt drei Oscars ausgezeichnet und beeinflusst auch heute noch Filmkomponisten.
Die Dokumentation erzählt anhand von bisher unveröffentlichtem Material, prominenten Interviewpartnern und Zeitzeugen die erstaunliche Karriere von Max Steiner und zeichnet Steiners Kindheit und Jugend im Wien bis zu seinem Aufstieg als bedeutender Filmkomponistin Hollywood nach.
Erst vor wenigen Tagen ist im Home Media Magazine der Artikel “Black and White on Blu“ über s/w-Filme auf Blu-ray erschienen. Darin bestötigte George Feltenstein von Warner Bros., daß 2010 eine Blu-ray-Veröffentlichung von John Hustons Film-Noir “Die Spur des Falken / The Malteses Falcon” [USA 1941, John Huston] mit Humphrey Bogart ansteht. Im Blu-ray.com-Forum wurde nun ein erster Termin genannt, den Warner Bros. Frankreich veröffentlicht haben soll. Demnach erscheint der Film der Schwarzen Serie am 3. November 2010 bei unseren Nachbarn in Hi-Def. Am selben Tag soll auch noch John Hustons “Der Schatz der Sierra Madre / The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” [USA 1948] – ebenfalls mit Humphrey Bogart – auf Blu-ray erscheinen. Die Angaben sind natürlich mit Vorsicht zu genießen.
Warner Bros. hat die ersten Blu-ray Disc-Titel für Dezember 2009 angekündigt. Am 4. Dezember erscheinen laut Area DVD in Deutschland diese drei Klassiker:

Inflationsbereinigt ist “Vom Winde verweht / Gone with the Wind” [USA 1939, Victor Fleming, George Cukor (uncredited), Sam Wood (uncredited)] in den USA immer noch der erfolgreichste Film aller Zeiten. Am 17. November 2009 veröffentlicht Warner Bros. diesen Klassiker auf DVD und Blu-ray. Drei verschiedene Sets sind geplant:
Eine einfache Blu-ray-Ausgabe ohne die Sonderverpackung und ohne die Beilagen der UCE ist in den USA vorerst nicht geplant, wird allerdings in Großbritannien erscheinen.
Das komplette Bonusmaterial der “4-Disc Collector’s Edition”-DVD aus dem Jahr 2004 wird übernommen. Das neue DVD-Set enthält zusätzlich eine weitere Bonus-DVD mit drei weiteren Dokumentationen und Trailern. Bei dem Blu-ray-UCE-Set wird das komplette Material auf zwei Discs zusammengefasst. Dem Blu-ray-Set liegt außerdem noch eine weitere Disc mit der Dokumentation “MGM: When the Lion Roars” [USA 1992, Frank Martin] bei. Ob es sich dabei um die komplette sechsstündige (!!!) Doku handelt, ist bisher nicht bekannt.
