Bernardo Bertoluccis zweite Regiearbeit “Vor der Revolution / Prima della rivoluzione / Before the Revolution” [I 1964] wird am 22. August 2011 beim British Film Institute (BFI) als “Dual Format Edition” erscheinen. Somit wird der Film erstmals in HD vorliegen. Ausgestattet ist das BD/DVD-Set mit umfangreichen Bonusmaterialen, diese werden allerdings nur auf der DVD zu finden sein. Auf den Blu-ray Discs des BFI liegen seit Einführung der “Dual Format Editionen” nur Materialien in HD-Auflösung vor. Bomusmaterial, das nur in SD existiert, ist ausschließlich auf den DVDs zu finden.

Die Details zur deutschen Blu-ray von Sergio Leones Western-Meisterwerk “Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod / C’era una volta il West / Once Upon a Time in the West” [I / USA 1968] wurden schon vor ein paar Tagen bekannt gegeben, auch die Info, dass die HD-Disc neben der bekannten Kinofassung auch noch eine restaurierte und leicht erweiterte Fassung aufweisen wird. Nun hat Paramount den Film auch in den USA auf Blu-ray angekündigt. Der Pressemitteilung kann man entnehmen, dass die restaurierte Fassung eine Laufzeit von 165:49 Minuten hat und somit 39 Sekunden länger als die Kinofassung ausfällt.

Über die am 9. Juni 2011 von Paramount kommende “Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod / C’era una volta il West / Once Upon a Time in the West” [I / USA 1968, Sergio Leone] Blu-ray hatte ich bereits berichtet. Nun hat die WebSite Bluray-Disc.de eine weitere interessante Bemerkung zu dem Set gemacht.

Und zwar wird der Film auf Blu-ray sowohl in der Kino- als auch in der restaurierten Filmfassung vorliegen.

Demnach wird die Blu-ray die auf der DVD vorhandene Kinofassung und zusätzlich die von der “The Film Foundation” restaurierte und erweiterte Version enthalten, die 2007 beim Filmfestival in Rom ihre Premiere feierte. Mehr Infos zur Restaurierung enthält diese Pressemitteilung der von Martin Scorsese im Jahr 1990 gegründeten “Film Foundation” vom 15. Oktober 2007.

Vor ein paar Tagen wurde durch eine französische DVD-WebSite die Info lanciert, dass Paramount im Laufe des Jahres die Filme “Frühstück bei Tiffany / Breakfast at Tiffany’s” [USA 1961] von Blake Edwards und “Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod / C’era una volta il West / Once Upon a Time in the West” [I / USA 1968] von Sergio Leone auf Blu-ray veröffentlichen wird. Zumindest die Meldung bezüglich des grandiosen Italo-Westerns hat sich bereits bestätigt und das sogar für Deutschland, denn Paramount hat eine Veröffentlichung hierzulande für den 9. Juni 2011 bekannt gegeben. Bei Area-DVD liegen sogar schon die Details vor. Das Bonusmaterial des 2-DVD-Sets wird demnach bis auf den Trailer und die Darstellerprofile übernommen. Bedauerlich ist allerdings, dass die deutsche Synchronisation auf der Blu-ray nur noch in einem 5.1-UpMix vorliegen wird und nicht – wie noch auf der DVD – in der originalen Mono-Abmischung. Die Integration beider Tonspuren wäre ideal gewesen. Aber immerhin ist dies nun bei der englischsprachigen Fassung der Fall. Bot die deutsche DVD hier nur einen 5.1-Mix, wird auf der Blu-ray nun auch noch die originale Monospur in restaurierter Form vorhanden sein. UPDATE 21. März 2011: Paramount hat verlauten lassen, dass der deutsche Ton doch nur in Mono und nicht als 5.1-UpMix vorliegen wird. Bei der spanischen bzw. französischen Tonspur ist dies ebenso der Fall.

Sergio Leones weltberühmte “Dollar Trilogie” mit Clint Eastwood wird am 1. Juni 2010 in den USA bei MGM / 20th Century Fox als “The Man with no Name Trilogy – A Sergio Leone Collection” auf Blu-ray erscheinen:

Die ersten beiden Filme werden in den USA erstmals auf Blu-ray veröffentlicht, “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” ist bereits seit letztem Jahr erhältlich, allerdings in nicht zufriedenstellender Qualität (siehe meine Screenshots der deutschen MGM-Disc oder den Bildvergleich beim AVS-Forum der US-Disc mit der italienischen Blu-ray von Mondo Home). Es ist wohl damit zu rechnen, dass eben diese Blu-ray auch in dem kommenden Box-Set enthalten sein wird.

Wie schon berichtet, erscheint das Set am 7. Juni 2010 auch in Großbritannien, dort allerdings unter dem Titel “The Spaghetti Western Collection – A Sergio Leone Collection”. Eine deutschsprachige Veröffentlichung in dieser Form ist eher unwahrscheinlich, denn die ersten beiden Teile sind 2005 in Deutschland auf DVD von Tobis / Paramount erschienen.

20th Century Fox veröffentlicht am 7. Juni 2010 in Großbritannien eine “The Spaghetti Western Collection” mit den drei Italo-Western der “Dollar Trilogie” von Sergio Leone, in denen Clint Eastwood die Hauptrolle spielt.

• “Für eine Handvoll Dollar / Per un pugno di dollari / A Fistful of Dollars” [I / E / BRD 1964, Sergio Leone]
• “Für ein paar Dollar mehr / Per qualche dollaro in più / For a Few Dollars More” [I / E / BRD 1965, Sergio Leone]
• “Zwei glorreiche Halunken / Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” [I / E / BRD 1966, Sergio Leone]

Enthalten ist die qualitativ nicht gerade überzeugende und bereits seit einiger Zeit erhältliche Blu-ray aus dem Hause MGM/Fox von “Zwei glorreiche Halunken“. In Italien ist dieser Film in besserer Qualität (Screenshot-Vergleich beim AVS Forum) beim Label Mondo Home erhältlich, allerdings ohne englischsprachige Tonspur oder Untertitel. “Für eine Handvoll Dollar” ist in Italien ebenfalls in einer schönen Edition auf Blu-ray verfügbar, in diesem Fall sogar mit englischsprachigen Ton- und Untertitelspuren (Screenshots bei DVDBeaver). Allerdings ist es eher unwahrscheinlich, dass Fox dieses in Italien erstellte Master verwenden wird. Wahrscheinlich wird das Master benutzt, welches auch schon für die DVD-Auswertung in Großbritannien und den USA herhalten mußte.

Kinowelt veröffentlicht am 7. Januar 2010 endlich den französischen Thriller “I wie Ikarus / I… comme Icare” [F 1979] von Henri Verneuil mit Yves Montand auf DVD. Ich kann mich irren, aber bisher ist mir keine weitere DVD-Veröffentlichung bekannt. Leider wird den Angaben von Kinowelt nach das Bild im Format von 1.66:1 nicht anamorph sondern nur letterboxed vorliegen. Bonusmaterial wird auch nicht geboten.

Auf den gerade wiedergewählten Staatspräsidenten Jary wird kurz vor seiner Amtseinführung direkt vor dem Regierungspalast ein Attentat verübt, das er nicht überlebt. Die Untersuchungskommission kommt schnell zu dem Ergebnis, dass dies die Tat eines verwirrten Einzelgängers gewesen sei, der sich nach dem Anschlag das Leben nahm. Blu-ray.com hat die Details der amerikanischen “Zwei glorreiche Halunken / Il bruono, il brutto, il cattivo / The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” [I / E / BRD 1966, Sergio Leone] Blu-ray aus dem Hause MGM veröffentlicht. Die Disc wird am 12. Mai 2009 erscheinen. Unterschiede bei der Bonusausstattung zur deutschen Blu-ray, die am 24. April 2009 in den Handel kommt, gibt es nicht. Laut dieser Seite auf Blu-ray.com sind die Blu-ray Discs identisch. Die US-Scheibe wird den Angaben nach nämlich auch eine deutsche Tonspur und deutsche Untertitel besitzen.

Last and biggest of Sergio Leone’s “Dollars” trilogy, this Euro western classic dazzles with gorgeous imagery and sheer scope. Filled with memorable setpieces, none more grand than Eli Wallach’s delirious graveyard run to the pounding strains of Ennio Morricone’s “Ecstasy of Gold”. The term “horse opera” was never so apt.

Am 1. August 2007 ist bei digitalcontentproducer.com ein Artikel über die digitale Restaurierung des Sergio Leone Westerns “Für eine Handvoll Dollar / Per un pugno di dollari / A Fistful of Dollars” [I / E / BRD 1964] für eine Blu-ray-Ausgabe erschienen.

That process, in this case, involved HTV/Illuminate first taking receipt of the movie on HDCAM-SR tape—material transferred from a 35mm inter-positive film element at Deluxe, Hollywood, Calif.—and then digitizing that material onto its network. The company then focused on manually fixing a series of flaws, including scratches, tears, and chemical stains, using a combination of the MTI Correct DRS software system and some proprietary restoration tools designed to handle flicker issues and other problems on specific shots.

Anderhalb Jahre später steht noch kein Termin für eine Veröffentlichung fest. Am 24. April bzw. am 12. Mai 2009 wird erst einmal “Zwei glorreiche Halunken / Il bruono, il brutto, il cattivo / The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” [I / E / BRD 1966], der dritte Teil aus Leones “Dollar-Trilogie”, in Deutschland bzw. in den USA erscheinen. “Für eine Handvoll Dollar” ist allerdings schon auf Blu-ray verfügbar und zwar in Italien. Bei DVDBeaver sind Screenshots zu sehen. Für diese HD-Disc wurde auf die italienische Restaurierung von Cineteca Nationale und Ripley’s Film zurückgegriffen und nicht auf die Bearbeitung aus den USA.
