Masters of Cinema macht die 100 voll.
Als hundertste DVD des britischen Labels wird Max Ophüls’ “Eine Diva für alle / La signora di tutti” [I 1934] erscheinen. Infos zur Ausstattung liegen noch nicht vor. Ein genauer Termin ist ebenfalls nicht bekannt, man kann aber wohl im November 2010 mit der Disc rechnen. Leider ist eine Blu-ray des Films bisher nicht geplant.

Am 22. November 2010 veröffentlicht das britische Label Masters of Cinema Fritz Langs Stummfilm “Metropolis” [D 1927] in der restaurierten und rekonstruierten Langfassung, die Anfang des Jahres in Berlin und Frankfurt/Main ihre Premiere feierte. Der Film wird auf DVD veröffentlicht, ebenso auf Blu-ray und als limitiertes DVD/Blu-ray-Combo-Set im Steelbook. Für letzteres bietet Masters of Cinema bis zum 2. 3. September ein Pre-Order-Special an: Innerhalb von 14 Tagen wird ein “Metropolis”-T-Shirt gratis verschickt und das Steelbook-Set - bestehend aus einer Blu-ray und zwei DVDs - wird im November frühzeitig ausgeliefert. Bezahlt wird per Pay-Pal, der Preis liegt bei 24,99 britischen Pfund, was ungefähr 31,- Euro entspricht.

In Großbritannien wird der Film “Paranoic - Haus des Grauens / Paranoiac” [GB 1963, Freddie Francis] der Hammer-Studios mit Oliver Reed in der Hauptrolle auf DVD und Blu-ray erscheinen. Die Discs von Eureka Entertainment kommen am 26. Juli 2010 in den Handel.

We are still in the stages of remastering and due to funding we are not sure when the process will be completed. Neben der bei der BBFC geprüften Dokumentation “Embracing Chaos - Making The African Queen” - die auch schon auf den US-Sets von Paramount zu finden ist - wird ITV den Audiokommentar des Kameramanns Jack Cardiff von der vorherigen DVD auch auf der DVD-Neuauflage und der Blu-ray veröffentlichen.
The award winning tale of romance and adventure, adapted from a novel by C.S. Forester and featuring screen legends Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart is widely seen as a cinematic classic. Bogart’s role as the hard-drinking river trader won him an Oscar, with Hepburn putting in a wonderfully astute performance as the prim missionary who must accompany Bogart in his boat, the ‘African Queen’ during World War I. The two are forced to travel down a hazardous river together, learning about each other along the way. Both John Huston’s masterful direction and the onscreen chemistry between Hepburn and Bogart, makes this a rare treat indeed.
Eureka Entertainment hat vorgestern den Trailer zum CinemaScope-Klassiker “Prinz Eisenherz / Prince Valiant” [USA 1954, Henry Hathaway] mit Robert Wagner, James Mason und Janet Leigh bei Youtube online gestellt. Das Label hat den Film am 26. April 2010 in Großbritannien auf DVD und Blu-ray veröffentlicht. In Deutschland ist er am 30. April 2010 auf DVD und Blu-ray erschienen. Laut BluRay-Disc.de kommt die deutsche Blu-ray im vorher nicht angekündigten Collector’s Book daher.
Masters of Cinema haben auf der endlich mit Inhalten gefüllten “Metropolis 27/10“-WebSite erste Details zu den “Metropolis” [D 1927, Fritz Lang] DVD- und Blu-ray-Sets enthüllt. Mit den Discs kann im Oktober oder November 2010 gerechnet werden.
Am 17. Mai 2010 veröffentlicht das British Film Institute (BFI) zwei weitere Filme innerhalb der “BFI Flipside”-Reihe. Erstmals werden sie als “Dual Format Edition” - bestehend aus Blu-ray und DVD - erscheinen. Mittlerweile sind die endgültigen Details zur Bonusausstattung bekannt.

Das British Film Institute (BFI) hat die Veröffentlichung der drei “Dual Format Edition”-DVD/Blu-ray-Sets der Yasujiro-Ozu-Filme “Später Frühling / Banshun / Late Spring” [J 1949], “Weizenherbst / Bakushû / Early Summer” [J 1951] und “Die Reise nach Tokio / Tôkyô monogatari / Tokyo Story” [J 1953] von April 2010 auf den 19. Juli 2010 verschoben.
Due to a technical issue, the BFI has had to move back the DVD/Blu-ray release of Yasujiro Ozu’s Tokyo Story and Early Summer from 26 April to 19 July 2010, when they will be released alongside Ozu’s Late Spring. All three titles will appear in the new BFI Dual Format Editions packaging.
We regret any inconvenience caused by this unavoidable date change.
Die rekonstruierte und restaurierte Fassung von “Metropolis” [D 1927, Fritz Lang], die während der diesjährigen Berlinale und in Frankfurt am Main als “Metropolis 27/10” ihre Premiere feierte, soll im Herbst 2010 bei Masters of Cinema auf Blu-ray erscheinen. Im Criterion-Forum wurden die ersten Infos dazu bekannt gegeben:
MoC METROPOLIS BD will be released before Xmas. We’re coordinating with the other major licencees (Kino, MK2) etc for a simultaneous release — and it’s looking like sometime in October or November.
At this stage, our BD will be Region B.

The old extras are out of date now and the old commentary is too short. We’re not really planning on carrying any of it over.
Vom britischen Label Arrow Films hatte man länger nichts mehr gehört. Im März 2010 werden jedoch zwei interessante “Special Editions” erscheinen, allerdings nur auf DVD und nicht auf Blu-ray. Masters of Cinema wird demnächst eine DVD von Jacques Feyders “Die letzte Etappe / Le grand jeu” [F 1934] veröffentlichen. Ein genauer Termin (angeblich Mai 2010) und weitere Infos sind bisher nicht bekannt, das Cover konnte ich allerdings schon auf der Label-WebSite mit ein paar Tricks finden.
