Drei DVDs und Blu-ray Discs vom BFI im Juli 2009

Kommentare

Das British Film Institute (BFI) veröffentlicht am 13. Juli 2009 drei Filme von Jack Bond und Jane Arden auf DVD und Blu-ray. Bisher sind folgende Details bekannt:

  • Separation” [GB 1968, Jack Bond]
Separation concerns the inner life of a woman during a period of breakdown – marital, and possibly mental. Her past and (possible?) future are revealed through a fragmented but brilliantly achieved and often humorous narrative, in which dreams and desires are as real as the ‘swinging’ London (complete with Procul Harum music and Mark Boyle light show) of the film’s setting.

    • Audiokommentar von Jack Bond
    • London Sensual Laboratory Kurzfilm “Beyond Image” [1968]
  • The Other Side of the Underneath” [GB 1972, Jane Arden]
Arden’s violent and powerful adaptation of her work with The Holocaust women’s theatre troupe looks into the mind of a woman labelled schizophrenic – and finds not madness, but tortured sexual guilt created by the taboos of society.

    • Kinofassung
    • Längerer Workprint-Fassung
    • Interviews mit Sheila Allen und Natasha Morgan
  • Anti-Clock” [GB 1980, Jane Arden, Jack Bond]
A complex and fascinating avantgarde examination of time and personality. A film of authentic, startling originality, brilliantly mixing cinema and video techniques, Arden and Bond have created a movie that captures the anxiety and sense of danger that has infiltrated the consciousness of so many people in western society.

    • Super-8-Film “Vibration” [1974 | 40 Min.]

Flipside-Reihe vom BFI ab Mai 2009 auf DVD und Blu-ray

Kommentare

  • Privileg / Privilege” [GB 1967, Peter Watkins]
  • Adam und Eva / That Kind of Girl” [GB 1963, Gerry O'Hara]

Die Presse-Mitteilung:

On 25 May the BFI launches Flipside, a new strand presenting weird and wonderful British films in new high-quality editions on DVD and Blu-ray. The first three releases are Richard Lester’s darkly comic The Bed Sitting Room (1969) and Arnold Louis Miller’s pioneering Mondo-influenced ‘shockumentaries’ London in the Raw (1964) and Primitive London (1965).

Developed from its popular monthly screening slot at BFI Southbank, the BFI’s Flipside series on DVD and Blu-ray is designed to revisit and reappraise British films that have slipped through the cracks of cinema history – films that were overlooked, marginalised, or undervalued at the original time of release, or sit outside the established canon of recognised classics. Subject matter will vary widely (and will encompass everything from nuclear war to Soho striptease, from forbidden love to international intrigue) and is likely to appeal to a diverse range of film fans, many of whom may be unfamiliar with the BFI’s more traditional DVD and Blu-ray output.

All Flipside releases, newly-mastered in HD from original film elements, are presented with a wide array of special features and extensive illustrated booklets containing informative notes and thought-provoking essays. Initial contributors include respected writers Stewart Home and Iain Sinclair. They are priced at £17.99 on DVD and £22.99 on Blu-ray.

23. März 2009
saturday-night-and-sunday-morning-blu-ray-gb-bfi DVD + Blu-raySamstagnacht bis Sonntagmorgen / Saturday Night and Sunday Morning” [GB 1960, Karel Reisz]

In the industrial streets and factories of Nottingham, Arthur Seaton (Albert Finney) spends his days at the factory bench, his evenings in the local pubs and his nights in the arms of Brenda (Rachel Roberts), the wife of a fellow factory worker. Irresistibly handsome and brimming with animal vitality, Arthur is anti-authority and unashamedly amoral.

Based on Alan Sillitoes largely autobiographical novel, and with powerful central performances, crackling dialogue and a superb jazz score by Johnny Dankworth, the film stands as a vibrant modern classic. This Seminal film of the British New Wave was a great box-office success – audiences were thrilled by its anti-establishment energy, gritty realism, and above all its fresh, outspoken working-class hero.

  • Commentary by film historian Robert Murphy, with writer Alan Sillitoe and cinematographer Freddie Francis.
  • New interview with Shirley Anne Field.
  • Interview with Albert Finney.
  • Illustrated booklet containing essays and biographies.
  • We Are the Lambeth Boys (1959), Karel Reiszs classic Free Cinema documentary.
  • Feature presented with dual mono PCM audio (48k/16-bit), extras Dolby Digital mono audio (320kbps)

Das BFI über weitere Blu-ray Discs

Kommentare

In einer Werbebroschüre des British Film Institutes (BFI) ist über kommende Blu-ray Discs folgendes zu lesen:

After the success of Salo and Red Desert, BFI is proud to present yet more essential Blu-ray titles for 2009. The British New Wave classics Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and Saturday Night, Sunday Morning get their High Definition premieres in March, along with the extraordinary Bodysong, which features music from Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. April sees the releases of Pasolini’s Trilogy of Life, a 3-disc collection of the controversial auteur’s bawdy adaptations (The Decameron, The Canterbury Tales and Arabian Nights). These landmark films are presented in brand new High Definition restorations from the original negatives.

Für “Die Einsamkeit des Langstreckenläufers / Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner” [GB 1962, Tony Richardson] und “Samstagnacht bis Sonntagmorgen / Saturday Night and Sunday Morning” [GB 1960, Karel Reisz] liegen bereits Termine vor: Beide Discs erscheinen am 23. März 2009.
