Based on Rumer Godden's novel, this Oscar®-winning film tells the
story of five Protestant missionary nuns trying to establish a school
in the desolate Himalayas. The women are plagued by uncertainties and
worldly desires. Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger create a
dramatic study of the age-old conflict between the spirit and the
flesh, set against the grandeur of the snowcapped Himalayan
peaks. Director Michael Powell and Black Narcissus fan Martin Scorsese
offer audio commentary about the film.
