Passend zum Remake mit Keanu Reeves und Jennifer Connelly bringt 20th Century Fox am 2. Dezember 2008 neue Special Editions des Sci-Fi-Klassikers “Der Tag, an dem die Erde stillstand / The Day the Earth Stood Still” [USA 1951] von Robert Wise auf Blu-ray und Doppel-DVD heraus.

2003 wurde der Film als doppelseitige RC1-DVD innerhalb der mittlerweile eingestellten “Studio Classics”-Reihe auf den Markt gebracht. In Deutschland wurde der Film ebenfalls im Jahr 2003 zuerst als Einzel-DVD veröffentlicht. Diese DVD bot bis auf die Dokumentation das Bonusmaterial (Audiokommentar, Fotogalerien, Restaurierungs-Demonstration, Trailer) der RC1. 2005 folgte eine Doppel-DVD innerhalb der ebenfalls bereits eingestellten “Cinema Premium”-Reihe. Diese bot das Bonusmaterial der Einzel-DVD, die Dokumentation der US-DVD und eine zusätzliche Dokumentation mit dem Titel “A Warning and an Ultimatum”, welche auf den neuen US-Editionen nicht enthalten sein wird. Beim “Making of” der Blu-ray/SE-DVD scheint es sich auch nicht mehr um die sehr umfangreiche Doku der bisherigen DVDs zu handeln.
