Mit 13 Nominierungen geht David Finchers “Der seltsame Fall des Benjamin Button / The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” [USA 2008] als großer Favorit ins Rennen, gefolgt von Danny Boyles Golden-Globe-Siegerfilm “Slumdog Millionaire” [GB / USA 2008] mit zehn Nominierungen, “Milk” [USA 2008, Gus Van Sant] und “The Dark Knight” [USA 2008, Christopher Nolan] mit jeweils acht, “WALL-E” [USA 2008, Andrew Stanton] mit fünf und “Der Vorleser / The Reader” [USA / BRD 2008, Stephen Daldry], “Frost/Nixon” [USA / GB / F 2008, Ron Howard] und “Glaubensfrage / Doubt” [USA 2008, John Patrick Shanley] mit jeweils 5 Nominierungen. Darren Aronofskys “The Wrestler” [USA 2008] mit Mickey Rourke, der auf vielen der letztjährigen Bestenlisten der amerikanischen Filmkritiker ganz weit oben stand, hat gerade einmal die Chance auf zwei Trophäen … so häufig wie das Action-Vehikel “Wanted” [USA / BRD 2008, Timur Bekmambetov]. Nun ja! Und irgendwie hat’s der Eichinger auch geschafft, seinen “Der Baader Meinhof Komplex” [BRD / F / CZ 2008, Uli Edel] ins Rennen um den Auslands-Oscar Oscar für den besten fremdsprachigen Film zu schicken.
