Über mögliche neue Blu-ray Discs aus der “Flipside”-Reihe des British Film Institutes (BFI) hatte ich die Tage schon berichtet. Allerdings scheinen nur zwei neue Titel am 17. Mai 2010 veröffentlicht zu werden, der von mir genannte “Prostitute” [GB 1980, Tony Garnett] scheint außerhalb der Reihe zu kommen.

Anscheinen veröffentlicht das BFI zukünftige Blu-ray Discs als “Dual Format Edition”, also inklusive DVD des Films. Dies ist schon bei den Yasujiro-Ozu-Discs der Fall und nun auch bei den hier vorgestellten Sets. Leider scheint sich der Preis dadurch leicht zu erhöhen.

“The Party’s Over” [GB 1965, Guy Hamilton]
When enigmatic young American, Melina (Louise Sorel), falls in with a group of Chelsea beatniks, she catches the attention of the gang’s defiant leader, Moise (Oliver Reed), but invites scorn and jealousy from the group’s other members, including Moise’s lover Libby (Ann Lynn). At one wild and drunken party, the group’s games are taken too far, and tragedy follows, but only when Melina’s fiancé, Carson (Clifford David), begins investigating does the terrible truth reveal itself.

Originally banned by the censors for its controversial content, The Party’s Over has long been out of circulation, despite the presence of some of Britain’s most celebrated acting talent and James Bond director Guy Hamilton (Goldfinger , Live and Let Die).

“The Pleasure Girls” [GB 1965, Gerry O'Hara]
When Sally (Francesca Annis) comes to London to pursue a modelling career, she moves in with Angela (Anneke Wills) and three of her friends, where she experiences the carefree life of bachelor girls in swinging London. Over one weekend – filled with parties, blossoming friendships, and romantic encounters with Keith (Ian McShane) and Nikko (Klaus Kinski) – the vivacious girls learn about life’s pleasures, as well as its more painful side.

Shot on location, with sparkling dialogue and lively performances from its young ensemble cast, this engaging and intelligent drama bears all the hallmarks of director Gerry O’Hara’s (That Kind of Girl, All the Right Noises) assured style.

Obwohl es sich nicht um eine “Flipside”-Veröffentlichung handelt, hier noch die Details von “Prostitute” [GB 1980, Tony Garnett]:

Tony Garnett, one of British television’s most controversial and celebrated figures, is responsible for producing some of the most politically radical UK drama, and is associated with some of the most ground-breaking work with director Ken Loach.

His directorial debut, Prostitute, is the tale of two women – Sandra (Eleanor Forsythe), an ambitious but naïve Birmingham working girl who moves to London with the hopes of securing wealthier patrons, and Louise (Kate Crutchley) her social worker friend who is fighting to change the antiquated and hypocritical prostitution laws. As both women try to reach their goals, a cold dose of reality dashes their hopes, and the built-in biases against women in society are unmasked.
