And more goodies are on the way, including an eagerly awaited reissue of the Oscar-winning 1933 film version of Noel Coward’s stage hit, Cavalcade — which takes a panoramic look at British society in times of peace and war — and also Fritz Lang’s suspense masterpiece, Man Hunt.
“A film might be 70 years old, but still relevant and important,” says Richard Ashton, Fox Home Entertainment’s director of classics. “(Cavalcade is) now as much a commentary on Iraq, as it was on the Boer and First World Wars when it was first released.”
Man Hunt, which has been unavailable for decades, stars Walter Pidgeon as a British sniper who, at the very beginning of the film, has Adolf Hitler in his sights, but ends up being hunted by the Gestapo. The release of Man Hunt will be timed to coincide with the arrival in theatres of Valkyries, Tom Cruise’s new thriller about a plot to kill Hitler. “It’s a question of being opportunistic,” Ashton concedes. “Tom Cruise making a movie about the attempted assassination of Hitler gives us the opportunity to make Man Hunt more relevant to the consumer.”

We are responsible for maintaining the heritage of the studio. “Studio management is busy making movies, but we manage the catalogue, and part of the catalogue is obviously the classic library.
