Hi,
Sehr schnell gehts diesmal, ich hoffe das Tempo wird gehalten, denn die ersten zwei Set's gehören für mich zu dem Besten was jemals auf DVD gepresst wurde. Hier das pressrelease:
Treasures from American Film Archives 3
DVD Project Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Film Preservation Board
Movies began during a period of reform and mirrored America's turbulent social consciousness. In the years before World War I, motion pictures examined such questions as alcoholism, abortion, child labor, immigration, police corruption, TB, and women's rights, often packaging hard-hitting issues in narrative to make them more accessible to urban viewers. As movie-going grew in popularity during the 1910s and 1920s, producers moved with the times and brought to the screen topics that mattered to a wider audience. It is not surprising that during these decades, when film emerged as the era's most influential mass medium, advocacy groups, charities, government agencies, and businesses also turned to movies to explain their work and shape opinion.
With the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Film Preservation Board, the NFPF has launched a DVD project to reclaim this little-known history. The new set will present an array of features and short documentaries, newsreel segments, serial chapters, public service announcements, and cartoons exploring social issues during these formative years. Joining forces with the NFPF are the nation's foremost silent-film archives—the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, George Eastman House, the Library of Congress, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
The content for the 3-DVD, 9-1/2 hour anthology will be drawn entirely from the preservation work of these institutions and will explore social issues from different political and ideological perspectives. Showcased will be many rare films not previously available in good-quality video, including The Godless Girl (1928), Redskin (1928), and Where Are My Children? (1916).
Treasures from American Film Archives 3 will reunite the curatorial and technical team from the NFPF's previous award-winning sets and include new music accompaniments, audio commentary, on-screen film notes, and a printed catalog of essays about the films and music. The new anthology is slated for release in fall 2007. Check back for more details in the coming months.
